Are You “Toxifying” Yourself?

St. Petersburg Times,  As the Deepwater Horizon rig continues spewing oil from a mile beneath the Gulf of Mexico, most of the public attention has been focused on the harm it could do to beaches, birds, fish and coastal wetlands. But there are questions about how bad the oil could be for humans, too.

“You are dealing with a toxic substance, there’s no doubt about it,” said David Mica of the pro-drilling Florida Petroleum Council.

At a time when the world is horrified by this seemingly endless release of toxic substances into our ocean, I can’t stop but think about the poisons that we may be allowing into our bodies on a daily basis.  I did a presentation recently titled, “Foods That Kill“, and it highlighted 3 of most common toxic substances that you  must avoid in order Live Longer.  The 3 “foods” presented were  1. Artificial Sweeteners, 2. Hydrogenated oils/ trans fats, and 3. High Fructose Corn Syrup.   In this post will highlight the truth about artificial sweeteners;

Aspartame (Nutra Sweet)

  • Made of  aspartic acid, phenylalanine and methanol.
  • Metabolizes into   methanol, formaldehyde, formic acid and diketopiperazine.
  • Able to penetrate the blood brain barrier.
  • Acts as a neurotransmitter and damages neurons by overstimulating them—hence the term “excitotoxin.”
  • People who consume aspartame may develop a variety of symptomologies commonly diagnosed as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Sucrolose (Splenda)

  •  Long-term safety of Splenda has never been established
  •  The absorption of Splenda in the human body was studied on a grand total of six men.
  •  Sucralose is simply chlorinated sugar
  •  Any chlorocarbons not directly excreted from the body intact can cause immense damage to the processes of human metabolism and, eventually, our internal organs

Reducing Your Toxic Spill

In part one of Foods That Kill, we have discussed artificial sweeteners.   Your nervous system  has the ability to adapt to certain levels of toxic stress, but in this case avoidance is your best choice.  There is no safe levels of either of these chemicals and they can only detract from your health.  You are better off using natural sweeteners like Stevia, or Agave.  For more information on :natural sweeteners click here.  Check back for part II of Foods That Kill: Hydrogenated Oils / Trans Fats.
