What is Health?

by drdave on December 11, 2009

What is health? Most doctors, when asked to define health, will give you the standard definition from Dorland’s Medical Dictionary:

“A state of “optimal physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.”

I believe that definition to be inaccurate. Dorland’s does not define health, but defines a state of “optimal health”.

Obviously there are different degrees of Health. Having said that, if you are reading this then most likely you are interested in experiencing “optimal health”.

You may believe that you are “Healthy” when you’re not sick. You may be told by your doctor that you are healthy because you passed your annual physical. The truth is, passing your annual physical doesn’t make you healthy, it just makes you “Not Sick”. All your physical exam is checking for is if you are having abnormal symptoms (ex. high blood pressure, lung obstruction, abnormal findings on blood and urine tests, etc.) If you were to have problems in these areas you would have less than “optimal” function, and be considered “sick”.

Being “Healthy” and being “Not sick” are two very different things. Would you rather be “not poor”, or “rich”? Would you rather be “not ugly” or “pretty”? Do you see that there is a difference?

Optimal health is a full expression of your genetic potential. We are all born with a program in your DNA to live to your “optimal health” potential. Your nervous system is the master system of your body. It allows your genetic potential to be fully expressed by reading your program and carrying it out. If your nervous system is interfered with, in any way, it will not express your “optimal health”. So, your DNA is the program and your nervous system is your computer.

Your nervous system is the Master System of your Body, controlling and coordinating every cell, tissue, and organ. It consists of your brain and spinal cord. Your brain is protected by your skull, and your spinal cord is protected by your spinal column (inside your 24 spinal bones). In order for you to be healthy, this pathway must be clear. Chiropractic care removes the interference (subluxations) from your spinal bones, restoring optimal nervous system function.

In my office we utilize technologies that measure the efficiency of your nervous system. When was the last time you had your spine and nervous system checked? If you never have, I invite you to come in and have it checked in our office. In order for you to be healthy, you need to have a proper functioning nervous system. Call now to start your journey towards “optimum health”!
